Jazan Special Economic Zone
Launch
On Thursday, Ramadan 22, 1444 AH, April 13, 2023 AD, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister of the council, launched four special economic zones in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a strategic step to strengthen the Saudi economy and provide a globally competitive investment environment to attract qualitative investments. The cities of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu embrace two of these zones: the special economic zone of Jazan, located in the southwest of the Kingdom, and the special economic zone of Ras Al-Khair, located in the east of the Kingdom.
Location and space
The Jazan Special Economic Zone is located within the boundaries of the first phase plan of Jazan City for Basic and Transformational Industries, with a total area of 24.6 km² It is 3 km away from the city's industrial port, which is considered the largest port in the region, and was launched in 2022 to be the gateway to the exports of targeted industries within the region, and the integration link for global supply chains.
Target sectors
Jazan Special Economic Zone targets three sectors, namely: food industries, manufacturing mining industries, and logistics services, with all economic activities defined in the National Classification of Economic Activities ISIC 4
Competitive advantage
These sectors were chosen in line with the competitive and strategic advantage of the Jazan region in terms of its geographical location on the Red Sea, through which approximately 13% of the world trade volume passes, and its location on the Silk Road, and its proximity to the Horn of Africa, as well as the abundance of natural resources in the region of food crops and wealth. Marine and mineral resources that facilitate the availability of feedstock for the targeted industries in the region.
Expected effects
The Jazan Special Economic Zone will contribute, Gord willing, to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in raising its global investment competitiveness and enabling its attraction to foreign investments, through a package of competitive incentives and enablers, in addition to being an integrated industrial logistics platform.
Our mission
The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu is distinguished by its nearly fifty (50) years of experience in the management and operation of industrial cities, which enabled it to develop an operational model based on international best practices to be specialized in managing and operating the Jazan Special Economic Zone, and to ensure that investors meet all kinds of requirements. Our mission at the Royal Commission is to make Jazan Special Economic Zone a competitive and integrated economic growth center for manufacturing industries. And to provide investors with export opportunities, leading business services, and a high-quality lifestyle. This lies in integrating existing and under-planned projects in the city that will be integrated into the effectiveness of the Special Economic Zone, such as the presence of the industrial port operated by one of the global operators, Hutchison Ports Company. As well as projects to develop infrastructure and support systems, ready-made factories, and an investor services center.
